Indigo dye, which comes from a variety of plants native to India, dates back to 1600 B.C.. Indigo dye was originally reserved for royalty but today, indigo dye is most commonly used to give denim it’s blue color. While some brands use natural indigo dye, most use synthetic indigo dye as it is cheaper and produces the fades so many denim lovers want faster. While indigo is mainly reserved for jeans, it’s often used on jackets as well.
